I have 8 pallets in Durham that I need to get rid of.

There's a state law against sending them to the dump, so they can't be dropped off at the waste transfer station. I contacted someone that recycles pallets but he wanted me to pay for him to come out.

Does anyone know how to get rid of pallets in Durham? Should I just put them on Craigslist?

I know they pay for good pallets but you only have 8. If you have a freight company in the area maybe they would come and pick them up.

If you can't get rid of them on Craigslist, you could always try Freecycle.

Advertise them as "build-your-own-compost bins kits". We've been collecting from the builder across the street from us and finally have enough for a 3-bin system.

I know first hand Lowe's charges a $12 deposit on their pallets if you take them home. They have to be worth something.

Who brought the pallets there? Companies build pallets to fit their folklift, so they are not one size fits all. My family has a sod business, its the only reason I know pallet facts.

Craigslist usually works. Depending on their size, i might be interested in having you drop them off at my house. PM me.

If you break them down, cut them up, then they can indeed go to the dump as scrap wood.

you can always cut them up and burn in fireplace.. most pallets are not treated so no problem with that.

a lot of pallets are made from real oak.. they burn good..

JAT (just a thought)
