I was bit disappointed when I called waste industries to pickup my fridge from Morrisville, they charge $75 (oops), Town of cary charges just $25....a simple google search saved me $$. Hope this helps for others!

Good post, folks often don't know about these programs.
For non-Duke customers - many power companies support this program including Wake EMC. So it's definitely worth checking with your power provider. It typically must be a "secondary/spare" refrigerator/freezer.
My in laws had a 52 year old freezer in MD that was still working when they downsized. They couldn't believe they got $50 and free haul away.

We had them come and get our old freezer a couple of years ago.

We also had them come (for free) to inspect our HVAC units. The HVAC tech actually put some Freon in our old system for free.
