Wake Forest OctoberFest (http://www.gjcae.org/id4.html - broken link)
Wake Forest is having an OctoberFest celebration this Saturday, October 25th, from noon until 7pm.
Several local and regional breweries are contributing and there will be music, dancing, cultural information and I am sure a great time for everyone.

It is the first one for the town, so please come out and support it so it can grow for next year!

They're a little late, aren't they? Oktoberfest is in September

I wonder who they asked to give the homebrewing demos. To my knowledge, the local club was not asked to participate.

There are more then one home-brewing club....and not all quality home brewers belong to clubs.

Yes, for a traditional Oktoberfest they are a bit late (have you been to it?), however, there are other events that Wake Forest has to work around. To be honest, it's amazing that they even got permission to hold such an event based around beer in Wake Forest with the formerly strong influence of the SBC Seminary. Let's not quibble about a late date and enjoy it!

They are going to use the warehouse at Festival Park, so even if the weather is not great, it's going to be great! I went by there today, and they have the signs up and people were out prepping the venue.

LOL....no!

It's just that I think the ogranizers went with who they knew to get this off the ground. I don't know if they are home-brewers themselves or not....they probably just do not know every known every group, club or indivdual to ask to take part. They did some research, got some leads and went from there.

I am sure that next year if another group wants to be included or give a talk, they would love to include them if possible.

I REALLY hope that this takes off. I used to live near a city that had a HUGE Oktoberfest celebration. I went to them two years in a row and asked if our local homebrew club could participate by giving demos. We were basically shut out because of other organizatations (e.g., beer distributors) applying a heavy hand to the organizers. It's so much better to see local residents involved than some big world-wide conglomerate.

Well....one of the main sponsers is a local brewery (Big Boss) and they've started out with homebrew talks...so something tells me they are just not interested in the national brands, though there is a place for what they contribute.

Get the word out, get folks to stop by and ask and keep an eye on plans for next year.

Yeah, I wish that I'd known about this more than 4 days in advance. My parents are coming into town and I already have plans.
