If it matters to someone, they can reach out to the Research Triangle Park organization and ask them to update their website.

Their "about us" tab is titled "About The RTP", and many times throughout the website the organization refers to itself as "The Research Triangle Park" (Refer to "Seeing Potential" on the page).

About The RTP

Heck, there's even a book written that is called "A Generosity of Spirit: The Early History of the Research Triangle Park".

https://books.google.com/books/about...d=ZO6YAAAACAAJ

It's apparently referred to both ways within and outside of the organization. Not a big deal.
My real "beef" was that they were saying "The RTP" to mean "the Triangle area", in general. They are by no means the same. At least say "The RTP metro area" or "...region", etc.

Personally, I get annoyed when people say Falls of THE Neuse. But that's another thread for another day.
But the road was originally named that, so people who lived here before the "the" was dropped (probably to make the signs shorter) still say that; nobody is sure exactly when it was dropped, probably 1980s. And, grammatically, it's more proper to say 'Falls of the Neuse River' than 'Falls of Neuse River'--which is likely why people still say it.

There are plenty of "NY Bagel shops" and especially "NY Pizza shops"--run by expatriate New Yorkers, but there are always going to be those who are never happy with them. Maybe you should come for yourself before you decide there are "no good ____ shops" here instead of relying on hearsay? I'm told (by New Yorkers) that New Yorkers just love to complain about anything, as a hobby, so maybe it's that. There are some who say no pizza can match NYC because of the water? Unfortunately we do have our share of transplants who make it known to anyone and everyone that they think things were so much better in NY (or wherever) where they came from, leading to the inevitable response of "So why don't you go back?" I'm sure you won't be one of those--but this goes a little bit into that trend.
Really, you need to make your own judgments when you visit, as opposed to taking everything someone tells you as gospel. Many of these rumors flying around LI have been passed on for many years, and the areas has changed quite a bit, for better AND for worse. Unless the person telling you something has actually lived here or been here VERY recently, they may be just repeating something that was said 10 years ago. Lots of food joints have come and gone in that time.

It's subjective anyway--I bet there are stores back where you are that these same people would say are no good, that you like, eh? What matters is whether YOU like something after trying it yourself.

This map from 1959 says otherwise.

But I agree with your comment, the "the" sounds proper.

I think they should ALL get a pass. We all know what areas people are talking about. It is annoying to some people to always be corrected about the proper use of words & letters......RDU, RTP, Triangle, etc. It's quite picky, especially as we live in a text type world now, where everyone is communicating just about everything in short-hand code....LOL!

I think we should just let it all slide, unless someone is asking specifically about the terms. That would feel more welcoming. But hey, that's just me.

If you are considering a move, here is disturbing fact.
You can get better pizza by accident in NY/NJ than you can in NC on purpose.

I didn't see "quality of pizza" as a criteria for the OP in regard to her relocation.

And of course, one can get better bbq by accident in NC than you can in NY/NJ on purpose, so I suppose it evens out.

Ha! and guess what, we don't even like Pizza that much! Realistically, pizza in Italy is NO comparison to NYC, no matter how hard they try, LOL. My son is the only one who likes it - my two girls won't even eat it!

I will have a grandma slice now and again, but myself and my husband honestly don't like the "regular" slice that everyone eats around here.

I am 1/2 italian, so whenever we go out to eat we always hit bistros, bc i am SO tired of dishes with tomato sauce! (I had more than my share growing up). The only sauce i like is the homemade sauce i make with our garden tomatoes in the summer - yum!

north panellas guy - sounds good, I am just kind of not looking into any of those posts - I don't get it anyway! all of the abbreviations are confusing!

You will be able to grow some awesome tomatoes and veggies there. I did up a great raised bed garden system, to avoid the clay soil. The weather was great for growing. My neighbors loved coming over to see how huge everything grew. They would bring their friends over as well. I kept people well fed....LOL!

sounds great to me!! we grow quite a bit in our garden, and give plenty away too, even though our lot size is like less than 0.25 LOL - on that lot we have a house, a shed, a fence, a swingset, a patio, a bbq, and a playhouse - so you can only imagine how little space is left - my husband gardens anywhere he can squeeze it in - along the entire side of the house and left side of the yard!
