Pretty snow now in Durham. Maybe there's enough traction to walk my dog. I should put on my lawn aerator sandals (they weren't good for lawn aeration).

Here in Garner everything is just a sheet of ice. We only got about 1/2" of snow but once the rain started it instantly froze to everything. The trees and everything are encased in about 1/4" of ice. We are quite here... the lights blinked on and off all night but we personally never lost power. Folks a block from us have had no power since yesterday afternoon.
My mother lives near Lake Benson. I started seeing people on FB talking about losing power, so I called and told her to get ready. She charged her cell phone and turned on the electric blanket to get it warm! She called about 8:30 to say that her power was out, but she didn't have the number to call. I called for her and spoke with a very nice lady (I was expecting everything to take forever!). I told her I was calling on behalf of my "elderly" mother. (I figured she'd forgive me! She's 77, but far from elderly!) I was worried sick about her. Talked to her this morning, and it came back on about 10:45 last night.
If you have older neighbors or family members, please keep an eye out for them!
We've got snow coming down in Fuquay. Not a lot, but it's pretty. Then there's the ice thing. I could do without that! No power loss, though. Son was going to walk to the grocery store, and decided against it. Too icy.
I have, I'm in Sanford. I left to ride down to Hamlet and #1 is a sheet of ice... until I got past Tramway. After that I drove the speed limit and then some with no problems. Course the roads will be worse north and west but common sense goes a long way...

I saw that. Very sad. I cannot imagine dying like that.
