Duke (Durham) , UNC (Chapel Hill) , ECU (Greenville) , and Wake Forest (Winston Salem).
There are two schools with significant engineering programs;
NC State (Raleigh) and UNC-Charlotte.
To be within 20 minutes of each in a rural area; you are basically looking at Pittsboro/Chatham County. 20ish + minutes to Chapel Hill, 20-30 minutes to Raleigh.
That's assuming those are the two schools the couple get into respectively.
TarHeelNick, are you not including Duke's Pratt School of Engineering?
