I was planning on switching from TWC (now Spectrum) to Earthlink in a couple of months, but it appears that the affordable Earthlink plans have been discontinued.

The previous options were:
  • 50 mbps: $29.99 for 6 months, then $41.95
  • 100 mbps: $39.99 for 6 months, then $51.95

Now the only option available is 100 mpbs for $44.99/mo for one year then $64.99/mo. Between the TWC-Charter merger, the lack of progress with Google Fiber, and lack of availability of ATT Fiber in most areas, this is not good news.

&$#^@*!!!

I just got my bill. $41.95. Did they say when they were discontinuing it?!? I've got no such notice.

Looks like I'll be buying some prepaid credit cards with fake names to start new accounts with to get promotional pricing from TWC.

Just called, grandfathered in. Too bad you missed it!

$45/month goes to $65/month now, wow did we get lucky. Asked if there was any affordable internet option available which isn't listed was told "no!".

Unbelievable.

I cannot believe (well, I can) that people will be paying $780/yr for the lowest tier internet. I'm seriously speechless. Even a 5 or 10 mbps service for $20/month would be useful.

I guess the old song and dance of switching back and forth between Time Warner Cable and Earthlink every 12 months is over now. My 12 mo period with TW has just finished, so my bill jumped from $35 to $45 (Extreme Internet, 50Mbps). This is when I would usually switch to Earthlink for 12 months, but just checked and Earthlink is now the same price, $45 (though this is 'up to' 100Mbps, and after 12 mo, price jumps to $65). 50Mbps is good enough for me, so I guess I'll stick with TW for now.

Are there no lower price options in Raleigh?

You'll still need to play the old song and dance because $45 can quickly go to $55 the next year

Undoubtedly. Hope there is more competition by then.

That's my biggest beef. I had no idea they had planned to gut the low end of their offerings. The government needs to let go of regulation so we can start getting some competition, and if they won't do that then they need to regulate prices. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

If the government lets go of regulation, then all the companies will merge and you'll have one giant internet/cable conglomerate to rule them all.
