Another thing about CA, is you can't just apply, pay, and attend. There is an application process, and not everyone who applies is accepted. They get more applications than they have available seats.
Where did you get this information? According to NC Dept. of Education Website, in 2015 Green Hope had an average SAT score of 1719: Accountability Services
If he got that from Niche, that's only the aggregated test scores from users of the site (who knows what that means, I never gave my SAT score to join that site) - the 1719 number is more accurate.

This. My daughter applied for 6th grade and didn't get in. She was already 2 years accelerated in math, had excellent grades and test scores, glowing recommendations from teachers, lots of community service, involved in several positive impact activities, wrote a fantastic essay...and did not get in.
We did apply for financial aid that year and they actually told us we qualified for FA but that they didn't have any , I always wondered if that was a contributing factor (ie: they might have assumed we couldn't pay for it).
Anyway, without FA we could not have afforded it so it was fine, but I've always wondered what exactly it was they were looking for since she met, and exceeded, all of the admission criteria! A friend of ours whose child went to the Raleigh School said that every kid at TRS who applied got in.

That is really strange. Everyone I've known from Morrisville Elementary who applied for 6th grade has gotten in, except one kid who wound up going to Ravenscroft. How was your daughter's interview? I know a 9th grader who blew his interview because when they asked him why he wanted to go there, he said, "I don't. My parents want me to go here." He's at GHHS now.
honestly I have no idea...they didn't really give feedback on that, but she has always been very good interacting with adults and she's the one who insisted on applying there, so doubtful she would have said anything like that.

I wonder if they just didn't have that much aid money that year.

I find it hard to believe that everyone who applies would get into a private school like Cary Academy.......
