Ponds where dogs tend to swim have a high incidence of Giardia. Coming in contact with an infected dog can allow transmission of this parasite from dogs to humans. Children seem to be more susceptible since they put everything in their mouths.

I was just going to mention this.
If your dog ever has it you will not want that dog near any pond ever again.
I've never quite seen anything like that....(mine got it from drinking out of a puddle, I think)
