My husband and I have found some amazing property in Franklin County that we would like on build on. My only hesitation are the schools in the area (I will have two rising sixth graders by the time we move).
Looking at GreatSchools.net, Bunn middle and high seems to rate better than many Wake County schools, plus the size of the school system is much smaller so issues with assignments and overcrowding are nonexistant. Does anyone have any experience with Franklin County schools? What are your thoughts?
I would suggest that you also look at ncreportcards.org
Franklin Co had only started to really grow quickly when the recession hit here. Being further from employment centers, and serving a largely inbound population, activity slowed to a crawl.
So, the rate of reassignment will HAVE BEEN much less over the past several years (though Wake has only reassigned < 10% of students in the last 4 years), but should pick up going forward.

Bunn only had just under 350 people living in town at the 2010 census. It's pretty much a hole in the wall.
That said, I did live there for nearly 3 of my elementary school years. It hasn't changed much since then.
It's a countywide system in Franklin County. Decent schools. Nothing to get excited over. Teachers make less than the ones in Wake County. If that matters to you.
I'm underwhelmed by Franklin County, in general. Lots of people seem to gravitate toward Youngsville, it being on the fringes Northern Wake County.
Where are you moving from? Franklin Co is VERY conservative, as a rule.
Dunno if you care about that or not.

I live in Franklin County, and have for about 6.5 years. I don't have children, so I'm no help in that area. However, I will tell you that I absolutely love it out here.
I teach in Wake and a co-teacher lives in Franklin and refuses to put her kids in school there. She brings them with her to work. Remember, Great schools is only rated by parents, maybe teachers. It does not accurately reflect the school. Check out the above mentioned site to get a better idea of how the schools rate.
I had looked in Franklin Co. but when I read up on the schools, I changed my mind.

We are moving from Wake County. We wanted to find land that we could have some animals on and have huge garden so that is the reason for looking in this area. We are really into the outdoors. I am liking the local food movement that is starting to happen in Louisburg; there are some family-owned farms out there that partake in CSA's, which I really like. We live in a subdivision now and are not fans. This property is 10 minutes from Wake Forest so it doesn't seem that isolated. Isn't Youngsville in Franklin County too?

I wouldn't move there because of the schools. But, that's me.
If you didn't have kids, the location sounds reasonable.
