Sears was in such a great position to effectively become Amazon back in the day. They had the catalog business down to a science. You could buy anything from car parts to an entire house from them at one point in time. They also owned Discover Card and Prodigy Internet, which could have tailored into the online space rather well.
What did Sears decide to do in 1993? They killed off their general merchandise catalog. They were short sighted to the blossoming internet. It's not like they had no idea. They were an owner of an online telcom service.
