When we relocate to Raleigh, I was thinking about changing careers and possibly doing something more outdoorsy. I know I can search for jobs on the Wake County website, City of Raleigh site, Raleigh City Farm, and know about the Triangle Land Conservancy.
Do you know of any other places I could look? Does anyone do this type of thing and have advice?
I found a couple of positions working on new Greenway projects but I didn't fit the qualifications. But I think that would be a great fit, considering I have a strong event / project management background in the IT field.
Triangle Land Conservancy. and google the rest, maybe "environmental advocacy raleigh nc". there are numerous organizations, but whether they're hiring or not is impossible to say.
Can you provide more specifics on the type of work & pay you're seeking?
Without that, try the universities (UNC, NCSU & Duke). All have some outdoor jobs. NCSU has farm/ag IT positions (I don't know if they are open positions).
Golf courses?

Thanks!

That's just it, I'm not sure yet. I've been doing IT work for 15 years and am very organized and efficiency driven but I enjoy work that makes a difference and helps people. I like the thought of working on new greenways or parks because I could apply my current skills to project that would have a lasting effect on the community.
I didn't even think of area schools, thank you!
My husband would loooove it if I worked for a golf course.

Ah, OK. I just didn't want to suggest anything you had no interest in. In addition to the Big 3, there are a number of smaller universities in the area as well.
Also, check the local municipalities' websites. Google Search Town of _______ (insert Cary, Apex, etc.) for open positions as I imagine some parks and outdoor spaces are under their jurisdiction.
They have been hiring some people for the Dix Park Conservancy. Interested to see how that project will develop.
That one I'm excited about. I've been following the architecture firm since they announced it and I'm eager to see what they bring to the design.

I applaud your intentions and hope you are successful finding something that fits!
Thank you! I'm looking forward to seeing what's out there. I've always been impressed with all the interesting ideas in the Raleigh area that bring people together, and the importance of natural areas.
