My wife and I were thinking of getting up early tomorrow with our 3 year old Daughter to go see the WRAL Balloon Event.
Any Tip or advice for where to go to see it for this years show - I heard there are changes each year and werent sure if prior posts would be accurate.
For those who have been to the managed event with the busses - is that the best route? any tips in terms of food stroller use, blankets etc?
Thanks to all in advance for advice and input. Have a great holiday weekend remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for us all.
Places to Park...
There is no parking at the park. There are a variety of public and private parking lots (including handicap accessible options) within a short distance from the entrance on Judd Parkway. Plan for distances from parking to the event site similar to going to other major events, such as large concerts, football games, sporting events or the state fair, where even the closest parking can be a 1/2 mile from the main entrance.
All parking is operated independently at public and private lots near the festival grounds. Festival organizers provide the following list of parking lots only for informational purposes and attendees seeking convenient parking for their individual needs. The WRAL Freedom Balloon Fest receives no funding from parking or from the listing shown here.
Some reviews said the private lots are worth it. The closest lot I see is like $20 per car. Do those get filled up right away also? $20 is a lot for Fuquay parking tho!
I went this morning with my daughter. We arrived at 6am....parked off of Academy street just past the entrace to the event (near a gas station where the road forks). There were plenty of $10 lots to choose from and the walk wasn't too far. I would highly suggest going and watching the morning competitions. If you get there around 6:15 you will see several balloons "unpack", fill and lift...then several other balloons come from another field to do the competition on that same field. It was nice and cool and not too many people.
