There's also Tropical Picken Chicken in Wake Forest which has a few Cuban dishes but it's ultimately a Puerto Rican place. I just crave a typical "everyone here looks Cubano" hole in the wall you'd find in Tampa or Miami.
There's also one in Raleigh now. Found it when searching for mofongo.
Unfortunately, the loss of German restaurants is a trend all over the US. Even the Chicago area has seen almost all of theirs close over the last couple of decades.
I'm with you. I started a thread in the Boston subforum basically asking about ethnic eateries around the city...ill be there for a week (not 2 like I originally thought) and my company is reimbursing me $25 For lunch and $50 For dinner every day...I'm solely eating at ethnic places lol. I got a Puerto Rican, Nigerian, Ethiopian, Afghani lines up for dinner so far lol...need one more, Cape Verdean keeps getting suggested as does Portuguese. I wish Raleigh had more African restaurants. I think there's 1 and it's a gimmick. Same with Arabic.
Tropical Picken Chicken was unimpressive to my Puertorican girlfriend. Said the mofongo was bland and too dry. My dish was a bit bland as well. Raleigh does have a decent amount of authentic Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Mexican and a few south American joints though.
For Cuban sandwiches, our family prefers Cary's Havana Grill over Durham's Ole Havana. The only other dish I've had at HG is the chicken and yellow rice (they may call it something different). Mine is much better!
I'm glad to see other Cuban places mentioned, will definitely check them out.
Agreed. In my humblest of opinions it's gotten considerably more varied.
Care to elaborate on this diversity? What has Raleigh brought in that wasn't here before?
