Yes it will be a mess, but now there's no alternative. NCDOT could have reworked the bridge when they widened I-40 to 6 lanes and then widened it again to 8 lanes just a few years later.

Construction should start ramping up soon. "ROAD WORK AHEAD" signs went up about a week ago, and trees are being cleared at the interchange.

Construction work will soon begin on the other I-40 interchange at RDU airport
