I am white as they come, but my friend who would be moving with me from Minnesota to the triangle area (Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, Carborro, Pittsboro, Raleigh) is of Indian ancestry (raised in Wisconsin since age 2 so she is as American as they come). She is concerned about racism against her given her skin resembling that of Muslims etc and given that North Carolina is in the middle of North and South and how NC has a reputation for conservative, etc. Should she be concerned? Will she encounter racism given her ancenstry and skin color? We are looking to escape the hellish climate of MN, NC looks pretty good and I have visted NC but not the triangle area specifically. Any thoughts appreciated; a sensitive topic but where one lives and how one is treated are important decisions, especially if buying a house, settling in a community with a career.
Disclaimer: I'm white but have family that have married into Indian families.
General answer: This area seems great for everybody. An issue to think about is that any are that has a high area of a certain race/culture/religion, people are afraid of making generalizations or "blanket" statements that cover everybody. Your friend grew up in American so she is American. There have been many threads here on Indian-Americans vs Indians from India and the cultural differences that you can try to find in the search.
I think that for the majority of this area, people don't generalize based on race and skin color and treat you as an individual. (Unless you become that A-hole and nobody likes that no matter what race you are)

There will be no issue. Like a previous poster said, Morrisville and Cary have huge Indian population. Just go to the Morrisville Walmart and you will see.
I'm Asian decent and when I visited Raleigh I felt like it was my new home...people were so nice. Even though I don't have any accent as I lived here for a long time and people in New Hampshire is nice but I even felt more welcome around Raleigh/Carey area.
