Another railroad bridge, this time the vehicle won - sort of, unlike with the Durham railroad bridge. This is, I believe, an active track, just north of Apex.

OP took those pictures from the WRAL article. The N&O one has more details though:

North Salem Street will remain closed near Old Jenks Road and U.S. 64 until CSX and the N.C. Department of Transportation inspect the railroad bridge and determine it is safe to pass under, said Apex police Capt. Ann Stephens.
Railroads are pretty quick to respond to things like this. There are cameras and sensors.

WRAL is now saying the street and bridge will be closed until at least late April. Not going to be happy drivers.

Didn't look safe to me. Alternative route, Salem Chruch to Davis Dr has a tricky left turn. It's going to be a mess.

The left turn gets a lot less tricky if through traffic south from Cary is routed onto Salem Church.

Or, to the resident's horror, if the northbound traffic is routed through Salem Woods, to turn left onto Old Apex.

And, regardless, a fair amount of traffic will divert to US-64 and skip the mess altogether.

When I saw the initial report this morning and Apex was it wrong to hope it was the bridge on 55 near Salem? Might be the only way they ever widen that spot... (kidding)

You're not alone, I was secretly hoping the same.
