My mind is jumbled and that's why i'm asking here- So I am moving out of Ohio to NC (looking at Cary) in 10 months. What's a good ''plan'' look like besides saving money and working like crazy to save? Note, ill have a cushion coming in Jan so i'll be using some of that money to assist too. Ex: April - put money away, don't eat out

Any fellow Ohioans who moved to NC?

why are you moving from OH?
Why are you moving to NC/Wake County?
how many people are moving?
what's your living arrangement now?
what field do you work in, and what are the chances you'll have a job already?

why are you moving from OH? I want to explore a different state.
Why are you moving to NC/Wake County? That, I don't know. A friend suggested it to me. I'll need to do my research on it more.
how many people are moving? Just me! Age 29.
what's your living arrangement now? Right now I live in an apartment alone.
what field do you work in, and what are the chances you'll have a job already? I work in the Public Health field as an educator. Job wise...yeah, i'll need to look up on that, too.

Have a job lined up before you move here.

Your plan doesn't seem to be fully baked yet.
Take some days off of work this summer and drive down for a few days.

I moved to Los Angeles years ago when I was young and single.

If this is what you want, it's the right time to do it.

Your plan isn't much of a plan. Why 10 months from now? Is that simply when your lease is up?

There are tons of Ohio people here.

This is a great area, but looking for a job while you're still in Ohio may not pan out. We've got plenty of people here who are qualified for most jobs, and an employer is not likely to pick up the phone and call a person in Ohio instead. One way around that is to establish an address here through - say - a UPS store that can give you a physical address here for your resume. Not having a local phone number isn't an issue, tons of people here using their cell phone numbers from their home state.

But that may not work. Because you'll be spending a lot of your savings coming down here for interviews. That leaves you with the option of moving here without a job lined up. If you can bail and go back to Ohio, I guess you could try that...especially since you have only yourself to worry about it.

Yeah, not much "planning" here. You picked a place because a friend suggested it? You really know nothing about this area. You don't have a job lined up (FYI, we have a couple of major universities here cranking out public health educators). And Cary?? You're young & single, and you think Cary is where you want to live. I can't decide whether to laugh or cry.

You REALLY need to spend a lot of time poking around the threads here, researching cost of living, looking at job postings, and educating yourself before you wind up making a very expensive mistake.
