I looked at an old posting about buying mattresses and everyone said the original mattress factory. Anyone have a reccommendation that is NOT original mattress factory? Would going to high point save any money on a mattress?

Really, the mattress factory is about the only honest bedding store.

High Point wouldn't help since most mattresses (except the factory) are not made here.

That's really a great store. No phony deals.

I've had good experiences with Fred's Beds in southwest Raleigh (on 54). I've bought my bed there twice. The store is set up well so that you can compare brands easily.

Don't knock the original mattress factory! :-)

I went there b/c it was one of the few places that would sell me only the mattress. My guest room had a platform bed. All my guests raved about the mattress so much that when I moved I switched the master and the guest room mattress.

I have nothing bad to say about original mattress factory. In fact, I know very little about it. I was just looking for other opinions. I really like pillowtop mattresses. Would I find that there?

ok I have since learned that I can get a pillowtop there. But here's another question....do they sell split-boxsprings? The kind that fold in half for easier moving?

Furniture Follies in Carrboro sells *great* mattresses. They have mostly mattresses with minor cosmetic scuffs and marks and discount them heavily. We got an awesome coil/latex mattress with a European pillowtop there. The owner, Ridge, is really nice too.

We've bought twice from Fred's Beds and they were great. Got very nice Kings Down mattresses. Last year dh and I bought a Select Comfort Sleep Number bed from Crabtree and had a great experience with them too. Loving the bed very very much, it will be 1yo in July.
