Anyone here have a handicap placard? My mom just got hers (1 for each of our cars) and they're pretty flimsy. We'd like to get one of those plastic holders, but almost all of them are for smaller placards (for some reason, NC and a few other states have oversized ones).

Hoping someone has a recommendation. I really don't want to pay $20 for a piece of plastic; particularly as I need to buy two.

Thanks!

I have one. I use it only when I have a joint replaced Yes, they are flimsy. I bought one of those plastic sleeves from DMV and it's still kind of flimsy...especially in a hot car. I like Mike's idea to laminate. I think I'll do it myself using thin plexiglass.

I have a plastic laminator in the office, and laminate all sorts of stuff to preserve it.

The .5mm sleeves would work well, and one could trim out the hook to hang the placard on the mirror. Or put a suction cup on and stick it on the windshield.

I'll get to work on it. The sleeves I have still aren't strong enough to hook it on the visor in the hot sun. Not a great fit either.

Run it through twice.

Get a lanyard clip and wrap the strap around the mirror, and clip the placard on and off.

Or a piece of Velcro tape on the placard and the mirror and stick on and off.

Just don't get so engrossed in applying the placard that you run into the grocery carts that the able-bodied like to leave in the parking spots.

Don't get me started on grocery carts. What people do with them after using one says something about their character

I agree. There are some very few extenuating circumstances where I will cut some slack to people who abandon their grocery cart in the middle of the parking lot rather than walk 20 feet to put it in a corral. Maybe their three year old just tripped and scraped his knee and it's bleeding badly, maybe they just got a call that someone is in the hospital, but maybe they're lazy slackers who think it's other people's job to pick up after them (the usual explanation).

The most they usually issue is two (we have three vehicles). As an amputee I have the 5 year permanent one and yes, they are flimsy. You can buy the holder in the drivers license office or do what I did. I borrowed the tape gun from our shipping department out back at work. Covered them front and back then trim out with scissors.

If you are new to this I suggest you watch some Youtube clips to under stand how to use it. The penalty for using it while the handicap person is not in the vehicle is two tickets adding up to $550.00 to $800.00 and the confiscation of the placard. Also, the hatch marks to the handy cap zone is not a free space for anyone. It is used for vans that have fold down ramps on the side of a van.

Welcome to the very played out game of finding an open spot for handicaps dot com enuf said.
