I just feel the need to point out that UNC Campus Police and Chapel Hill Police Department are separate entities. UNC Campus Police has jurisdiction over what happens on campus and CHPD has jurisdiction over town. They help each other out, but it would be out of line for UNC Campus Police to take the lead on a town activity (say closing down Franklin Street for a street fair or big game win). They defer to CHPD. Likewise CHPD helps out UNC Police with things on campus, but they let UNC Police take the lead on campus events.
Local TV journalists seem rather appallingly uninformed about this. The print journalists seem to be doing a better job.
(And I'm not going to link any stories, but if you come across any just keep this fact in mind. I just felt like that needed to be cleared up.)
Yup. I have a degree in journalism and I hate it when I see terrible local journalism.
I'm not mentioning anything controversial in this thread. I really just think it's appallingly bad journalism and wanted to set the record straight that Chief Chris Blue does not call the shots on UNC Campus. That would be the UNC Police Chief, Jeff McCracken. Chief Blue calls the shots on Franklin Street and in Chapel Hill town limits.

Yeah, I'm waiting for CBS17 to do a story about Debra Morgan's and Dolly Parton's right to not bare arms,
