Greetings all-

Hubby wants to know what I want for my quickly approaching birthday. I am thinking a really nice couples' spa date would be great. Would ideally like to NOT do an overnight trip, but would consider it -ideally not too far.

So, I am looking for ideas/recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

Rock Barn Spa in Conover. It makes for a long day of driving (it's about 2.5-3 hrs away, depending on where you are), but it's a true day spa. You can schedule your services, and take your swimsuit so you can spend time relaxing in the mineral pool (you can even hear the relaxing music under water!) and swim under the rock wall waterfall and let the water massage you. Order lunch and drinks/cocktails poolside.

It's not cheap, but it's worth it for an enjoyable relaxing day, IMO. The only problem with making it a day trip is that you're so relaxed when you're done that you want to take a long nap instead of driving 3 hours!

The "Umstead" would be a good choice.

I did a multi-day package down at Pinehurst a couple years back and can heartily recommend it! I'm sure they have day packages and the restaurants are right onsite and, I thought, terrific. It's about a 90-minute drive so not too grueling but far enough out of town to be out of town.

Enjoy!

The drive to Pinehurst is actually quite nice.
