Activities are going to keep me fairly busy the next two days, but I did want to drop this note thanking everyone for their interesting insights, agreements and even (some) disagreements on this forum as we head into the last stretch of holidays this year. We saw a very active housing market, a blue wave in politics, the opening of some great new businesses including food halls, and the loss of some old favorites, like the mass closings of Krogers. We endured the wettest weather I can recall, including two heavy snowstorms, one at the start of the year and the other just two weeks ago, and a hurricane that really did a number on our friends down east. We saw some roads actually get completed, like the work on the Beltline and I-85 between Oxford and the state line. We saw some local teams get national championships. Heck, some of us even got to be among the lucky masses to witness Hamilton at DPAC!
Through it all, we came out mostly stronger, wiser and happier, in my opinion. Yes, this year could've and should've been better, and there's real struggles ahead regarding the drawbacks of growth, problems with a lack of mass transit, still way too many overdue and over budgeted road projects, and a state government that excels at dysfunction over serving the needs of our area despite how much population growth we've generated here in North Carolina. But I'm going to leave that aside for now to focus on how we're generally doing well compared to many others, not only in the state but also in the nation and the world overall. Let's keep that momentum going into 2019 and get even more done next year.
And finally, be careful celebrating out there. I want y'all back safe and secure as we talk even more in 2019, OK?
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Festive Season - how ever you might celebrate, enjoy the time. There are a lot of wonderful things in this world (and thanks oxmoe571 for reminding us all!).
