Good evening everyone,

Myself and a few of my business partners are looking to throw a homecoming event this fall. We are looking for a nice, classy venue that can hold approximately 500 or more patrons. This will be a semi-formal event, consisting of a young, professional crowd. The party will run between the hours of 10pm - 2:30am and include a DJ. Security, alcohol and other misc items can be negociated, depending on the venue.

I'm asking if anyone has any suggestions on a venue in the Raleigh-Durham-Cary-Chapel Hill area we could use for an event of this magnitude. We have done this for the past two years with great success. I understand it is difficult to rent a restaurant or club of this size, so I am very much open to any other venue this party can concievably take place...museum, event center, clubhouse, etc. Thanks!

You could check out the NC State Fairgrounds, they have several facilities.
NCDA&CS - N.C. State Fair Division

They might not look like much at first, but I've seen them really decorated nicely and it turns out great!

Many of the hotels have smaller event rooms that could accommodate this. The Marriott and Sheraton in RTP do. As does the Embassy Suites both in Cary and Crabtree Valley.

Might be interested in the listing of sites on these links:

Raleigh Wedding Sites Locations, Event Venues Spaces, NC
Event Venues in Raleigh, North Carolina (NC)

as well as these two local "event houses":

Historic Crenshaw Hall in Wake Forest North Carolina (http://www.historic-crenshawhall.com/index.php - broken link)
and
Longview at the Poe House

I like the Raleigh Museum of Ar if you can afford it, but 500 people may be pushing the size if you try and stay indoors.

How about the Millennium Hotel in Durham. We went to a function there and it was very nice.

This might be a dumb idea but have you considered the new convention center? It will open in September. You might also want to considered the performing arts center. I hear they have events there in their huge open lobby from time to time.

I know that Marbles downtown (Raleigh) hosts parties. You may want to give them a call. It's an interesting building in a great location.

Thanks for the replies guys. There were some really good suggestions. I know that most of the locations given are in Raleigh, but I wanted to know if anyone knows of any locations in the Chapel Hill-Durham-RTP area?

Keep in mind this is more of an after hours (10pm-2am) party (i.e - DJ, dancing, drinks) than a reception. I would love a place than has a club-type atmosphere or a restaurant with nice decor that can be used for events. Also remember that it needs to acomodate 450+ people...
