That Scratch lady really messed up by opening Lakewood. She even closed her original (very successful) Scratch location in downtown Durham, in order to focus on The Lakewood. It turned out to be a big flop

I was baffled by the move to close the downtown location as well. It wasn’t the best location downtown, but it still managed to be popular in spite of that. Also, it was located close to other shops and restaurants. Lakewood is close to The Scrap Exchange; that’s about it.
I did hear about it and have been checking their site to see when they were going to open for the season. Bummer.
I can see how an outside food hall might have a hard time over the winter as far as keeping staff. Since they had a central building with a bar, but relied on food trucks it’s a weird spot between a food truck lot and a true food hall.
Every time we went the place was packed, so I don't think it had anything to do with the location. The Lakewood area is starting to get better as they just opened a live music hall in the same shopping center that County Fare is located.

The only reason the Scrap Exchange moved there from downtown is because they are a non-profit and couldn't afford the (much nicer) space they had near downtown anymore!

I think it's not really the location or not being profitable, but it was management changes in general which left them holding the bag so to speak. I thought I read somewhere that half their management team abandoned ship over the holidays and they just don't want to deal with finding new hires.

Yeah, I can't imagine having to be in charge of hiring restaurant workers in the Triangle right now. Just shoot me.
