Meanwhile, Harris Teeter is planning to change the old Kroger at the corner of NC 54 and Fayetteville Road into a new store, even though it's just 1.5 miles from the Harris Teeter off the corner of 54 and NC 751. And the new store will be across the street from where the old Harris Teeter closed when HT and Kroger merged. Go figure.
i was involved in the Kerr Drug to Walgreens switch.
two years ago, i got imbedded with Kroger's buyout of Harris-Teeter.
the leftover HT'ers did not want anything at all to do with Durham demographics.
Kroger prefers to sit tight and wait for a payday. my opinion: slow money is no money.
The latter store would be a hard sell for any upmarket grocery tenant considering that Walmart closed for theft.
Oh I didn't know that! Wow, that's a shame. Really could use another grocery store in the area, if just to force the remaining HT on MLK to do better (their produce section is awful IMO and the shelves may have been cleaned once when it first opened).

I read that the area became a food desert after Kroger closed up shop. I think something like a Carlie C’s, Piggly Wiggly, or Compare Foods would be more appropriate for Kroger’s spot than a Publix or HT. Hell, I would argue that Roses should move from Homestead Market and open a Roses/Save-A-Lot combo store in the area.
Also, the shopping center’s owner needs to invest in security (and a better lit parking lot).
Harris Teeter bought the Kroger on NC 54, Hillsborough, North Roxboro, and North Pointe.
They did NOT buy the store off 15-501 or the store off MLK Jr. Parkway (which is now boarded up)

Gotcha. I’ve been to the one off 15-501 a couple of times. That was a nice store.
