We tried banana plants and elephant ears once. They just didn't look right in the space. We yanked them.

You can cut off the big shoots/plants and get rid of them. There is a large underground portion that will send up new shoots. To give them away, just wait a week or two after cutting off the big shoots and new ones will come up. While they are small you can remove them plus a piece of the underground structure and replant. You will be surprised how much is in the ground.

To remove them forever plan to do some digging.

Duke Gardens does and I have seen small bananas on them. Maybe they can advise?

The most common is Musa Basjoo and they do not produce edible bananas. I have a variety that grows pink bananas but they are not edible. Bananas are my favorite thing I planted. They get 15-20'+ and looks tropical. Mine made is past Thanksgiving last year. Post tem for sale on Facebook and someone will take them. You can sell the pups for $10-$15 a piece easily.

Default I'll take them!

Don't listen to these people! Plenty of people will dig up a plant if you want to give it up.
