I thought AD was already getting better, and a good part of the reason was attributed to the change in principals.
On the topic of Lochmere, m378 made a really good post. The school talk that has blossomed out if it ... Dillard Dr Middle is not a high-performing school, and Athens hasn't been though it's doing better. I have folks looking (mid-late 30's, young kids) and Lochmere is definitely desirable to them; however they do plan to not use WCPSS. And yes, there will be plenty of age diversity, as older owners move out and newer ones move in.
Indeed I went to Dillard Dr Middle when it first opened and it hasn't been high-performing from the get-go.. That was when Lochmere was chock-full of kids and all of it was assigned to Dillard Elementary and Dillard Middle (despite Oak Grove being literally across the street).
I grew up in Lochmere and have nothing but the best memories of it. Great place for families, and typically a solid community with good neighbors. For what you are seeking it would be hard to find a better place.
Plus, I am a graduate of Athens Drive and turned out ok. In fact, it is where I really honed in my knife fighting skills!

The fights that I saw at Athens were mostly among the girls and usually right in front of the principal's office. So they didn't last long. Not the smartest place to fight but seemed pretty consistent.
Athens is fine. It's missing the designer drugs that are available at Green Hope, and the porsches and Maseratis in the Green Hope lot. Seriously, many many Green Hope students drive cars way nicer than their teachers LOL. Hence the DRUGS DRUGS DRUGS but like others have said, Wake county moves administrators around ensuring quality education for everyone in general. personally I think it's more practical to be in a real life situation like Athens than a "privileged" school like Green Hope

Your definition of privileged must be different than mine. I don't consider hard working people privileged.

There are a lot of hardworking people who earn vastly different amounts of money. I'm not saying any one is "privileged", but depending on a person's socioeconomic standing I could see how some could find those earning the an income in the 10% might fit that definition.

Using dad's address in Lochmere I went to Dillard Middle school where the majority of the students, from Lochmere and elsewhere, were to eventually filter into Athens. After 8th grade I switched to use mom's address (spent a lot more time there anyways) to go to Apex High instead. Can honestly say I've never for a second regretted that decision.
If you're graduating class of the mid to late 2000s (of high school)...we probably rode the bus together at one point. haha

If you're talking about high school kids it's a little different. If you're driving a Porsche or Maserati as a high school student it probably has little to do with how hard you work.

Their parents likely worked hard to get that Porsche or Maserati. That work ethic often gets passed down.
People love to throw around the word "privileged", but rarely does what people perceive as "privilege" come from nowhere. It usually comes from hard work.
