Hi !
if you would need to choose one of those areas for an extended family ( of 5). With plans buying house, settle down, raise kids. Want to live in place where many parents with young children lives, good community, etc
What would you choose and please comment why?
The family is somewhat outdoorsy, requires an access to activities for kids, good schools etc.
Pros/cons on climate, culture please?
Even jobs not an issue for now. Would be nice to have an insight on high tech jobs market situation
Has been living in Charlotte 10 years ago, now on California

If you liked living in Charlotte, then Raleigh wouldn't be that much different. If you've never been to Denver, I'd suggest a visit to see if you like it. There are many things to love about Denver, but the winters can be very cold due to the elevation. I was there once in August and there was snow on the Rockies and our temps in Denver proper were in the 40s! To me, that's not August weather, but I've lived in NC for almost my whole life (36 years).

Do you see a lot of threads on the Denver forum of people from Raleigh looking to live there? Have you read through the threads here? Does it seem like people are looking to move away from here, or TO here? Your premise is kind of odd to post here.

I love Raleigh, but would probably choose Denver in this. They both have their pros/cons though.

I would choose Denver because it is closer to mountains, has better weather, the city and state are more progressive politically, and the city is more urban. Both cities have roughly 150 square miles, but Denver is 700,000 people and Raleigh is probably barely pushing 475,000.

The cons to Denver would be traffic and cost of living. Probably more tourists too due to proximity to resorts and the whole weed tourist thing.

Vesited Denver about 8 years ago, but only for short visit. Planning to visit both places this summer again to look what they are now

Uh, Raleigh? The place to which you said you were possibly moving?? Did you just pick these 2 cities out of a hat.

FYI, Raleigh is nothing like Charlotte.

I think the housing in Denver is considerably more expensive. Not sure if that's a consideration. Raleigh is very family oriented. Lots of great schools, activities and access to outdoor. I'm sure the skiing is better in Colorado if that is important to you.

We moved from Raleigh to Denver and moved back. Denver is a very nice place but wasn’t for us. No trees and weather was a bit extreme. Some people like the lack of humidity but the sun was harsher. Also Denver is more spread out and real estate is expensive.
