My husband's new job is bringing us back to NC and we are officially on the house hunt. (Used to live in Holly Springs and loved it.) We have an excellent realtor helping us, and I also thought I'd bring my question to this forum to help us zero in on some neighborhoods before we visit. Details:
Hubby's new job is in Cary, near the Weston area
House budget is $375K or less
Daughters are in college, so schools are important for longterm house values only
We don't need a big house (<2,500 sq ft.)
We don't want a long commute (<30 minutes)
We LOVE greenways and walking paths
Neighborhood must have gas access--you know, for the gas range in the kitchen everybody seems to want these days (myself included)
And one specific preference: We prefer neighborhoods that have plenty of trees in the back, but none that obscure the view of the house from the front. Does that make sense?
Which neighborhoods should we explore when we come to visit?
There’s a beautiful trail around lake Crabtree. Are you open to townhomes? You might be able to find a newer one close to Weston Parkway. Good luck and welcome back!!
Zillow is your friend. Just draw a circle 20 miles around the work location put in your price range and look at pictures to get an idea of what you might find.
We have a big dog, so we prefer a house with a fenced backyard, even if the house is in an older neighborhood.

^ second this. Thinking Northwoods, near intersection of Maynard and Harrison. Older established neighborhood with modest sized homes in OP's budget.... with trees. Can walk to DT Cary, greenways and trails everywhere (given in Cary generally), 5 minutes to Weston office area. Bonus = ground zero for "grocery wars"; Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Aldis, and New Lidl right there at Maynard Harrison intersection. Second Bonus... some of the best ethnic eateries around (Bosphorus, Noodle Blvd, Everest Nepali Cafe).
Agree with DT Cary, might get a house that needs some TLC in your price range though.
