Looking for recommendations for good dentists in the Durham/Chapel Hill area. Here's what I'm looking for: Dentists who do not see patients as ATMs. Basically, I'm looking for dentists who make recommendations about dental care based on good practice vs the most expensive procedure. Not interested in any "corporate" dental practices which are popping up around the country and usually involve rookie dentists, and unnecessary high-priced procedures.

I went to Wainright & Wassel once for a standard 6 month checkup/cleaning and was extremely put off by the up sell.

I've been going to Carol Hipps for several years and have been satisfied with her ability to take care of any real issues while refraining from trying to convince me that if I don't get some $800 mouth guard I'll need dentures in 2 years.

In Chapel Hill, there is a dentist on about every block so there is no need to drive to Raleigh to find one. Sorry, no recommendations on a dentist.

Dr Wignall at https://chapelhilldentist.com/ sounds like what you are looking for. I started taking my kids there after they aged out of their pediatric dentist. I am considering switching, but I do like my dentist, but only my dentist, at the big money making corporate practice he's at (no rookies, though). Saw the principal corporate dentist by accident 6 months ago at a cleaning (my dentist was doing a procedure) and I seriously considering switching over to Dr Wignall after that. My guy over at the corporate place is great, but I would not recommend the practice. Dr Wignall's office is super chill and they have never pushed any extra procedures on us. He's between the Cinco De Mayo and the Army recruitment center off East Franklin St between Estes and Elliott.

Interesting, that's never happened to me, probably don't think I have any money to spend

I've been driving 40 minutes one way to see Dr. Cecil in Durham (Meet the Doctor | Dr.Jeffrey R. Cecil | Independence Park Dental Arts | Durham, NC). When I first moved here in 2011, I went to Triangle Family Dentistry in Morrisville and was appalled at the upsell I got from the dentist. Then a coworker told me about Dr. Cecil and that her family has seen him for over 25 years. I LOVE Dr. Cecil as he is a very kind, caring man who is very honest and upfront about what your teeth need. His office staff is exceptional as well. No problems getting appointments either.
