Well, you'll fit right in, Patsyish. Insult us before you even get here.

Just kidding, I hope you know.

If you'll share exactly what you are looking for -- amenities, s/f, what you want in a neighborhood, preference for lot size, price range -- many people will help make suggestions as to areas. There is a lot of new development at the Southpoint end of Durham, so if you are not into 'cookie cutter' houses, you might steer away from there too.

I think many of the neighborhoods have a cookie-cutter look because the yards are, as yet, not mature. And you know, it seems builders and developers must be giving somebody what they want.

Anyway, a big welcome to you and your spouse. We love it here. Great place to retire, I think.

If it fits your lifestyle, enjoy. if not, there are many other choices in the Triangle area.
If you are referring to HOA with restrictive covenants there are plenty of those in Raleigh and the rest of the Triangle. And there are certainly choices in Cary for those that don't prefer living in a HOA neighborhood.

Check out some of the "bedroom" or satellite cities if you want some space, individuality, and more affordability.

Many are within 20-40 minutes commute, which coming from larger metro areas is no big deal. But you get the benefit of smaller town/city with access to big city resources.

Places like Sanford, Pittsboro, etc....

Moderator cut: off topic there are a lot of non-cookie-cutter neighborhoods in southern Durham, too. Moderator cut: off topic

Default Try Brentwood subdivision in Raleigh

Here is Brentwood's website: Beautiful Brentwood There are 3 slide shows that show you more. It has suburban homes from the 1960's on up, so there are big yards, sidewalks, street lights, and mature trees and bushes -- all things you won't find in a lot of new subdivisions that are definitely cookie cutter and much pricier.

Living in Brentwood, you are close to both the inner and outer beltlines, so you can get anywhere quickly, including Cary, and you can easily enjoy their festivals and restaurants and whatever. But Raleigh has plenty to do as well.

Brentwood does not have an HOA but does have an active neighborhood association and garden club, as well as the Brentwood Exchange Club, which is part of a national civic organization.
