Hello,
I am a 33 year old African American female looking to move to North Carolina within the next year. I am consider Raleigh, but would like some advice regarding best cities for African Americans. I am looking for a clean, safe location that offers reasonable housing, reasonably good nightlife, culture, culture and more culture and good employment opportunties. I am also considering South Carolina (Columbia or Charleston) and Dallas Texas. If anyone has lived in two or more of these locations, I would love your comparison.
All depends which part of Raleigh you will be working. Areas like Brier Creek, Morrisville around RTP are good choices, most of the technology jobs are centered in RTP. Good luck with your search!
If the racial issue is foremost for you, you'd probably want Durham--definitely the most "ethnic" of the areas in the Triangle, though professionals of all races live in every neighborhood in the area.
I have a good friend who lived in Dallas Texas before moving here. She says there is no comparison. Raleigh is lush and green, with absolutely tons of trees, with 2.5 hours to the beach and 3 hours to the mountains - she said there was no comparison with Dallas, and also felt that Dallas was much warmer. She also feels that the culture and social activities here are much better - at least that's my friend's opinion! Don't know anyone who has lived both here and in the Columbia or Charleston areas of South Carolina.
Hi. I am a 33 year old African American female from Milwaukee considering a move to North Carolina. I am looking at Raleigh, Charlotte or Durham. Can someone advise about safe places in Durham? What sets it apart from Raleigh?
