I have been tasked with trying to find places nearby, not 3h away, on things someone can take children to Drive through (or thru) zoos or safari hunts or adventures. Something other than watching a movie or idling in a car for food. Actual activities. But we seem to have a hard time finding something that would interest children for some sort of event.
Not walking in the park looking at trees. These kids not want to do that. Looking for something more visual for them where zoos, museums, scavenger hunts would have been the type of things to take them to.
So we came to ask if there are people who have found and taken their children to such an event around the area or even within an hour away.
Thanks.

We went to the Whirligig park in Wilson recently, it was a decent way to fill half a day. There was a horse farm in Apex that was doing drive through tours - not sure how often they do them, but it only took 10 minutes so it wasn't a good time suck.

Simple things are much more exciting these days. I never realized how much we relied on playgrounds, arcades, etc.

Carolina Tiger Rescue in Pittsboro has resumed tours. You still need to book ahead but tours are limited to 12 so they will fill up faster and masks must be worn. https://carolinatigerrescue.org/

The lemur research center. in Durham (which is probably still closed because it's in durham county which is still in shutdown.)

Aloha Safari Zoo in Cameron (I've not visited this place. I always meant to; then, we went on a safari in south africa. Zoos have pretty much been boring ever since. )

There is an aquarium in Charlotte.

The aquarium at Concord Mills isn't worth the drive. It's very small. I took my kids when they were younger and we were through in 20 minutes.

My family has been to Aloha two times- we went earlier this week. It's a 50 min drive and depending on ages on your kids- it will take 1-2 hours to walk around. Feed bags are $3.
I think the Safari ride is open on the weekend, but the woman at the front desk made it sound like that was still a day by day decision. Stretch the giraffe passed away but they do have a new giraffe that you can feed ($1 for 5 pieces).
