Just got a new car and want to order a personalized license plate. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to do this on the DMV website. Every link brings me to the custom plate choice. Does anyone know how to get around this?

In all due respect, this took me five seconds:

Edit: I see what you’re saying now - select “private auto” from the custom plate list.

Ha! I’d given up too, thank you for pointing out that buried option!

Thanks m378 - I scrolled through looking for "personalized" and missed the "private auto"

In all due respect, the DMV site makes it as difficult as possible...whenever possible

I agree - it's unnecessarily unclear. Didn't realize it until I dug in further.

I have a very faded personalized "NC State" NC auto tag. Will they replace with same #?
PS Wolfpack Red fades. Carolina Blue never fades. Seems to be by design or a conspiracy. LOL

This has to do with color spectrum, wavelength, and ultraviolet light. Red easily absorbs lights which then changes/fades the color. This is the reason that old red cars (not the classics with great paint job that have been kept immaculate, but just the regular Honda/Kia/Ford, etc.) look like crap. Red is actually one of the colors that fade the quickest. Carolina Blue? That's probably one of the colors that fades the least. UNC knew what they were doing... Duke blue fades faster compared to UNC blue as well, as it's much deeper into the color spectrum (longer wavelength).

PS. The crap you apparently learn when you think about painting the exterior of your house.

Also the reason why railroads these days tend to avoid red or purple paint for locomotives, which sit exposed virtually all the time.
