We are coming from NYC take a lot for granted and assume everyone else is live and let live. Cary has a very well educated population, relatively liberal, and you won’t hear certain words or micro aggressions here. We went to visit SC over the summer , as beautiful as it is, we had a lot of OMG (and WTF?!) moments with the people there. Things we haven’t heard since watching Archie Bunker on TV a million years ago. You have to be careful where you move

Are you planning on coming out to visit? I know my first trip here, I really liked it a lot but it was quite different than I had pictured.

If a half acre is a requirement, and if convenience is important, I'd recommend mature suburban neighborhoods in north Raleigh or Cary. Half acre lots with modest homes aren't impossible to find, but you better be ready to jump on something when it becomes available.
This is an example of what I mean:

This house is already under contract, but it ticks all of the boxes.

DD went to see USC over the summer, liked the school wasn't thrilled with the pickups with rebel flags on them....crossed it off her list...this is the kid who has lived in the south since she was 6, too.
