Has a poorly-painted sharrow ever caused an accident?
"Sharrows" are dedicated lanes for walkers in dark clothing at dusk or later.
The intent is to make them harder to see so drivers wet their pants when they spot them at the last second.
Experienced sharrow pedestrians like to have black dogs on long leashes for extra stimulation to surprised drivers.
Additionally, skilled sharrow pedestrians walk with traffic, rather than facing traffic, so they are not aware of vehicles approaching. They will also usually employ some sort of earbuds to drown out traffic sounds.
Very popular in my area of Cary, sharrows have been embraced and serve their purpose well.
Perhaps other locals will have their observations!
I'm living in the Triangle for almost 14 years and haven't been in an accident, and I'm down that way frequently enough. Am I just lucky?
I think that if we all drive assuming that no one else is committed to following the rules and may act in an unpredictable and potentially dangerous manner we can avoid most of the trouble.

Some are marked better than others. There's one exit ramp coming of 540 and Creedmoor Road where it's impossible to visually follow the lane and so you need to make rapid adjustments as you're moving to make sure you're in the right place. But that's part of driving, paying attention, being aware and making adjustments. But you are right, that's a problem more than it's not.

I added the bolded.
Almost hit a dog turning into my subdivision the other day as the man was stopped on the corner and the dog on one of those infernal leashes ran out into the road. Of course the dog got yelled at. Next day, different dog, people standing IN the street talking, at dusk, car backs out of driveway, dog runs on retractable leash toward car and almost gets run over. Dog again gets yelled at.
