whats up with not salting the roads did we give that up
They use brine and I saw it on 540 and 401 (Louisburg Rd) yesterday afternoon on my way home. We also had a decent amount of ice on our trees, railings and grill. It was very pretty this morning. We had to drive to Middlesex early and the further east we got, the less iced trees we saw. Then we had to head to N Raleigh off Creedmoor Rd near 540 and the trees were iced up and very pretty. We still had ice on our trees when we got home around 1 PM. It's gone now, but was very pretty while it lasted.
One of the field meteorologists at ABC11 was reporting on a puddle! A friggin puddle... saying so authoritatively, "the puddle has increased in size tremendously since we last checked!"
WTF?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just imagine the running commentary inside the field meteorologist's head: "I went to (insert name of college), spent all my time learning about Doppler and computer models and isobars and now I'm here in Raleigh talking about a puddle. For SIX hours. When can I get back to the warm studio and make some graphics."
It’s not just the WRALs and WTVDs of the world; The models themselves (GFS & Euro) have been hot garbage this year.
This is the impression I get too. I don't think meteorologists are all trying to hype up nothing. It seems like the usual models have become increasingly unreliable, and maybe nobody knows how to deal with that from a news presentation perspective.
But yes, I too am tired of going to bed all excited about some sort of winter weather event that might take the power out overnight, only to wake up in the morning, look out the window, and see the same brown soggy landscape I was looking at yesterday.
None of this is any shock as it has been going for decades here and all over the South. The coverage was over the top when I was a kid here in the 70’s. If it upsets you, change the channel or turn the TV off. It is no different than how the media covers politics or anything big news these days imo
Well, weather patterns change - I don't think they really have a choice but to warn us of an impending ice storm if that's what the instruments are telling them
