I agree with the OP with one caveat. I have an independent coffee shop close to where I work (Deja Brew). But if I work from home it doesn't help me. I live out in Brier Creek. We have Caribou (terrible), Starbucks (terrible but acceptable) and soon our own Dunkin' Donuts. (Don't get me started.) Any others that I missed? I wish we could have our own Joe Van Gogh coffee shop.
I guess I do not see how you agree with the OP since they are saying that "This city lacks coffee places" and you just named 3 for one specific location/area. They did not say "This city lacks independent coffee places".

If you prefer Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks go right ahead. I will go to Starbucks if I am traveling and can't find a local place. On the west coast, I prefer Peet's.
After I drain this Kangaroo travel mug, I may just put the dripper to use to turn out a few cups of Harris Teeter's finest Colombian.
I mean, a guy has to have some standards...

I think it's much better if you aren't living in the suburbs. Meaning, much better if you are in Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Durham, Cary, etc.
My go-to coffee is Fount Coffee and Kitchen in Morrisville, or NoRa in Raleigh.
I've been ordering Peet's whole bean for home. And Keurig Peet's when I am back at the office. I buy Joe Van Gogh when I'm near one, which has been a while. I've bought other local Raleigh coffee from time to time.
We've got plenty of Quik Trip stations in Gastonia/Charlotte/Mooresville/Concord. They have enough selection for me, available 24 hours, and $1.60 - $1.80 beats the prices at a Starbucks or Panera type chain.
Please ... post it on Reddit!! We don't want others to move here!
Tell them there are no good greek diners or delis either!!
LOL “I am going to turn The Triangle into a place NO ONE WANTS TO MOVE REDDIT WILL MAKE SURE OF IT”.
