I do not know. Again, I will ask. I am her friend who just got involved helping. Not her personal assistant to pass all these "she should have, should have not" comments to pass to her. I do not know her full situation with finances, etc. Not stuff that comes up all the time over coffee, you know? But she was in a panic since last night, hence, here I am online.

UPDATE

She was unable to find someone to give some free local consultation (to anyone that answered their phones). So, through her employer she found, they offer a legal service. So, she signed up for that and waiting to hear back.

She did speak to her renter's insurance people, so, that would answer any questions on if she has it or not. I did not clearly get all she said about that from talking with them, but they advise her what the landlords could be doing to make her pay for having to live outside her home and letting them use up her electric.

No kid stuff or furniture damaged. Just floors/rugs soaked with water and puddles and mold in kids' closest (the area most of the water came from.

I am not construction expert. The people who live upstairs from her have no problems, but she on the first floor does. But, not her neighbor who is also on the first floor has had problems

Mondays. :/

Unfortunately, her remedy is basically to move. And yes, I understand that's quite a burden for her, financially and personally.

That being said, perhaps the path of least resistance to a situation she finds more palatable would be if the LL/PM is willing/able to move her into a unit above ground level.

Renters insurance should cover her hotel fees, at least. She needs to submit a claim to them for her hotel bills. Electric may be harder to recoup.

If there is unresolved mold in the apartment she should call the health department. Or - threaten to. So that would be a start with the LL "I'm not moving back into an apartment with mold....are you going to work with me, or do I need to call the health department about it?"

She must have renter's insurance. You can't rent without it.

Then why ask? If you don't know, how are we supposed to provide reasonable answers to her quandary? YOU asked for help on her behalf, and you thought there'd be no follow up questions??? Sheesh.

You're welcome by the way.
