What crime map is the most accurate? What neighborhoods are safe to live in? What are the places to avoid? Looking for 2 bedroom apartment <$1100. Prefer walking distance to downtown, or near outdoor park / bike paths
Sorry, I missed this. You should ask on reddit too - look for Bull City.
Durham has gentrified a LOT and though I live there I am actually not sure what to tell you about what to avoid, esp in your price range. I feel like walking distance to downtown will be not possible at that price, in a safe area, for a two bedroom. Look at the crime map, but I suggest giving up on the walking downtown or massively increasing your budget.
You might want to look in North Durham near Eno River State Park, or Colonial Village near Ellerbee Creek. Google for Durham property managers as that might be your best bet.
If you can find a safe neighborhood near downtown with a 2 bedroom apartment <$1100, consider yourself fortunate. I'm in southern Durham within walking distance of the American Tobacco Trail, which runs from downtown Durham into Chatham County and beyond, but I have my own doubts about finding any apartments nearby that would fit your 2 bedroom apartment <$1100 criteria. You may need to adjust your expectations and anticipated costs to get what works best for you. Good luck.
A buddy of mine and his (now-ex) gf were renting a 1 bedroom apartment on the corner of Foster and Corporate walkable to downtown Durham until last year; their rent was $1800/month. Granted it was brand new but so are most of the apartments in that area now.

That's a good point - might be able to get a move-in special as so many apartments are being built there now.
