I teach in Wake if you have any questions. It's my first year here coming from out of state.
So I just attended a "virtual" job fair today. Very interesting, they did quick google meets for introductions and collected resumes. Did you apply from out of state with an out of state address? I feel like the Phx address on my resume is a big turn off. Is the hiring process long? How long after you were hired did you get your contract? I'm going to need something pretty soon after I get hired to prove income so I can get approved for a loan. So far how do you like teaching in Wake? Also doesn't Wake make more money than Johnston? I think I read that somewhere....
I had actually applied to Johnston first. My next door neighbor works for them and it's where I live. I interviewed before moving here and literally 2 days after interviewing in person during a visit, things started shutting down. It totally threw off our move and my job timeframe.
Then it was complete crickets and I had sent out several apps in Johnston last May after officially moving here. In June, I branched out and applied to Wake. I think I just hit it at the right time that they were hiring and had an interview and offer. It helped that I was sped and had experience in high needs schools.
There are so many openings right now. Can you put a specific date and general location around here, relocation in process.
If you know you are moving, apply for your NC license now. It will help to have that ready.
My neighbor describes Wake as a more throw you into the mix vs Johnston as a little warmer welcome. I can't speak to that but all of my orientation and tech tools were independently learned through videos and my searches based on past knowledge of the types of things I knew I needed. Wake does pay a bit higher, 1-2K I think.

So I have all the paperwork turned in for my NC license. Wake is only 1-2K more than Johnston? I thought it was about 5-7K more. That's why I haven't applied to Johnston yet (widow with 4 kids, so trying for every penny I can get...lol) Guess I should go ahead and apply for Johnston as well. Maybe more will open up IN Wake in June, guess I'll be renting until then. We'll see!
I'm basing it on MEd level on the 8th step. Johnston gives a 10.5 bump to the state pay for years 1-8 and 11.5 for year 9 up to something. If you have the National certification, there might be a bigger difference.
