Looking for recommendations for physical therapist for knee issues, hoping to avoid surgery as long as possible, already had cortisone shot. Wake County area, I need someone highly regarded. There seem to be so many PT’s here, dont know where to start. Thx!

I am a physical therapist. Knee issues are very common. I would go to the outpatient clinics run by Wake Med or UNC/Rex; they are well-equipped and staffed with numerous PTs. If you find that you don't "click" with one, it's easy to request a different person to work with. IMO there is no need to seek out the PTs who work with "high-level athletes" unless you are part of that population.

When you say "high-level athletes" are you specifically talking about people who get paid or are part of a college team?

Just curious at what level of activity someone would want a specialized PT. I certainly don't get paid (and I'm far from my college days) but I would want a PT who understands that I'm intentionally lifting heavy weights 3 to 5 times a week and not your typical sedentary individual who developed a problem.

I've had issues with primary care physicians in the past not being able to understand my particular situation and it is annoying unless I find someone who had some type of sports medicine background.
