So I'm looking for some nice peaceful water bodies. I have an inflatable raft, a life jacket, a whistle, planning on getting a waterproof flashlight and am an okay swimmer.
I want to find some water bodies at night because I think it would be cool to look at the stars from the middle of the lake but I might get too scared so not too sure!
Basically, I know of Jordan but no other place and I also don't know if Jordan is safe at night or not. I live in Downtown Durham so would prefer areas closer but I can drive for the right water body.

I’m not sure if you can enter at night. The entrances I’ve used at Jordan Lake have gates, though it’s such a big body of water, there may be an access point somewhere. Camping there would guarantee access.
It’s as safe as any body of water at night. I’d definitely recommend you wear a life vest and bring a friend. If something goes awry, you’re unlikely to find any help. I’d be comfortable doing what you describe but I have a lot of experience on the water.

What about here at Jordan Lake? We used to waterski in the back part
of this. You can (or used to be able to) access it off 1008, the road ends in the water.
You're just an "OK" swimmer? What's your definition of "OK"?
