I don't know how long it's been closed, but I just had an email from them about its replacement. They do plan to re-open, but not for another year. Too bad, I enjoyed eating there.

Oh wow, that's a shame that it will take so long. What's the replacement?
Was a lovely place to take people visiting from out of town or just brunching in general.
Iris opened in 2010. I believe it closed when COVID-19 arrived. NCMA had said several months ago that they'd entered into an exclusive deal with Catering Works for onsite food/bev and that Iris wouldn't reopen. I guess they're content with the Sip Coffee Bar for now. The old restaurant location on the lowest level of the east building opens intermittently for exhibitions.
Iris closed March of 2020 when everything closed. When the museum reopened, the area where the restaurant was located, was the entrance to the museum's West Building.
The space is now being used by Catering Works. They sell pre-made food. https://ncartmuseum.org/visit/dine/ They are using the same tables and chairs from Iris as you can sit and eat after you pick out your food and pay.
Is that the place with a cool art piece on the wall that looks like birds nest/waves from a far? That sucks. I never get to eat there and I remember reading that eggs benedict were really good there.

I don't know about the art. It was the only restaurant in west building.

Ah okay. I've been there only twice since I moved here 2 years ago (so both visits were in 2019 between June and December). I might be mixing up my museums.
