Hello

I am trying get clarification on the current benefits that public school teachers in NC, especially, the Wake county, can receive.

1. Is there retirement benefit offered?
2. Is there health benefit offered?
3. Is there a higher pay for a Master's or PhD done before 2010?
4. Lastly, is there tenure for teachers who hold a continuing license?

Asking as a teacher from SC, considering a move to NC.

Thanks a lot.

Check my facts on this:

1. Yes, via TSERS (state retirement for teachers).
2. Yes
3. Only if the advanced degree is required for entry (ie, media specialits, maybe some other disciplines)
4. I don't think there is tenure

Hi, I taught in Wake County last year after moving here from out of state.

1-yes, they take 6% out of your pay, the county puts in a higher %, over 10 but I can't remember exact figure.

2- yes, I thought the coverage was good. It was around $220 for my kids/myself.

3-I earned my MEd in 2011 out of state and received masters pay as an EC teacher.
