Does anyone have a recommendation for a body shop in the Holly Springs area for a simple key scratch? It's just through the clear coat, about 3.5 inches long. I've you tubed a fix, and it seems fairly simple, but I'm not sure how down I am with taking sand paper to my car.
I got a quote today for $778, and there's simply no way.
When I get back to work on Monday I can ask my co worker about how much that shoukd cost in general but my guess is you’re not gonna be happy with the answer.
I believe the cost arises because it's not as simple as buffing it out. If the scratch truly needs to be painted then the entire "whatever" portion of the car needs to be sanded, painted and top coated as well.
Automotive paint is like house paint, no two cans of paint are going to be a 100% match. Sure you could sand just the scratch and paint just that area, then instead of a scratch you have a stripe of paint that just doesn't quite match.
Unless it's a show car, for a 3.5 inch scratch I wouldn't lose sleep over it, to be honest. But that's just me.

You would need to find someone that knows how to match paint, not just let the computer do it. Good body shop guys have been doing it for decades. The hard part is finding someone that really does know how to do it.
I have had very good luck with body work at Kenny Hawkins, but they are not cheap and not in Holly Springs.

It may look simple to the lay person's eye but keep in mind that shop labor is expensive and the application of today's paints is a multiple stage process. The paint itself is very expensive! Heaven help you if it is a red! Blending is an art and if someone doesn't know what they are doing it will look bad. The price you received is probably not far off the mark!
I really appreciate the feedback from everyone - I will probably just learn to live with it, it's right on the door I open, so I have a constant reminder of my idiocy . But I guess if that's the biggest issue I have, life is pretty darn good!
Again, thanks, everyone!

You can get automotive touch-up paint pins to match and fix it yourself. It won't be perfect, but might make the scratch less noticeable. If the scratch isn't down to the bare metal, then try scratch removal compound first which may have decent results. All vehicles will eventually get scratches & dings sometime in their useful life if that helps any. As my mom once told me....it's just a hunk of metal (now plastic) that get's you from point A to point B.

As someone who had a new car repainted due to being rear-ended, that's my recommendation too. Maybe get some touch up paint and a really skinny brush from a craft store - you could make it less noticeable for sure.

Thanks! Sorry about your car....
