Hey all,

I will be attending a Duke basketball game next weekend. Looking to try some good BBQ and/or southern food while I'm down there. No clue where to even begin with the Google searches, so figured I'd see if anyone here has some recs.

Ideally I'd try some good ribs and brisket, and anything else that may be unique to NC. But open to all options!

I'm no expert on Durham, but typical North Carolina barbecue is pulled pork with a vinegar and pepper sauce, not beef ribs or brisket.

Go to True Flavors for breakfast or brunch. You won’t regret it.

Love brunch. Definitely adding that to the list. Thanks!

Best barbecue in the Triangle is Backyard Barbecue on Highway 55 in Durham. It’s a hole in the wall, family owned and run. Must get there early for dinner, 5-5:30 as when they run out of their fresh choices, they close. Great pulled pork, brisket, Brunswick stew and best Mac n cheese ever!

My son, who was living in NYC at the time, is a huge foodie and also a trained chef. He read about this place in a food magazine and told us about it. Highly recommend. Just looked at their website and see They are now closed on weekends! Must do enough business Mon-Fri.

Redneck BBQ Lab in Benson just off I-40. Some of the best ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and burnt ends you’ll find anywhere.

Chicken Hut in Durham - it's usually closed on weekends, every so often they open on Saturday as well and they will be open this coming Saturday!

Oh wait, I don't really know if they'll have ribs or brisket, though.

Maybe Q-shack instead.

I have only been there once, about 7 years ago. We heard it was good, but we had a terrible experience. The staff was friendly but the food was simply not good. I’ve heard from several others that this place is great, so should I write off my experience as an outlier and give it another shot?

My favorite place was Allen & Sons in Chapel Hill. I was so sad when he retired and closed it down.
