We have to leave at short notice for a funeral in Northern NJ. I think I saw something here about one-way car rental to NYC which would suit us perfectly so we could drive up, fly back. On a quick search as I make arrangements I can't find it...anyone remember without too much trouble? Thanks.
I think you're referring to a comment in the Non-Stop International Flights from RDU thread, but it was one-way rental from RDU to IAD or DCA. Not sure if the same would apply to any of the NYC area airports.
I thought any car rental could be picked up at one location and dropped off at another?
You also might consider Amtrak?
Not always...it depends on the market area. I tried to rent a pickup truck from uhaul with dropoff in another state and they said one way rentals weren't allowed on pickup trucks.

Unlikely nowadays since there is a rental car shortage. I had a claim where someone had an accident in Charlotte and the rental company charge $300 to drop it off in Raleigh (where he lives).
Amtrak would likely be much slower than a plane, and it seems time is of the essence.
It's been a long time since I last did a one way car rental, but I recall it being much easier to set up when I was picking up the rental at one airport and dropping it off at another airport.

Yes, but there's usually a one-way fee. The comment the OP was thinking of was from another thread where someone mentioned you can rent one way from RDU to IAD or DCA without the one-way fee (disclaimer: I haven't confirmed that it's true. I'm just relaying the context behind the premise of the thread)
