TGIF All! I checked and haven't seen much on dental implants here in city-data since around 2018. I would appreciate if you would share your experiences with dental implants, best pricing in the area, recommendations, etc. Thank you in advance for anything info you can provide.
Recommendations:
1. Price shopping can be a trap in dentistry.
Consider going only to someone who specializes in implants. Results>Price, IMO.
Read the fine print on the $1995 guys, and expect that loss leader price to go up before you are done.
3. And, I will go to another specialist for the crowns.
Probably Raleigh Prosthodontics, Dr. John Murrell, who has done a couple of excellent bridges for me. www.raleighprosthodontics.com
Yeah. I wish I had known as much about oral care and denti$$$try as a teen and in my 20's as I have learned since.
I had 2 implants a few years back by Dr Reebye at the Triangle Implant Center on Highway 55 in Durham. Very close to Cary. Dr Reebye is both an MD (maxillofacial surgeon) and dentist (DMD). I had excellent results. His practice has grown and he now has several locations with multiple dentists.
I've been using the Dental Health forum to get general info on all of this stuff (not specifically implants, but other "dental stuff" where you never know what to believe). It's not local, of course, so wouldn't give specific dentists, but is a general discussion of the issues in these more expensive procedures.
Pricing will vary depending on what your insurance covers but it's expensive. My out of pocket costs was about $2,700 for one tooth and that was with insurance. Implants can and do fail regardless of which provider does the work. Any provider that doesn't tell you that is being dishonest. My first implant failed because my body rejected it and it got infected so they had to remove it. After doing another bone graft they used a different type of implant and it's been fine.
Be aware that most insurance plans don't cover bone grafts so that is an added cost and if you have bone loss then a bone graft is required before they can do the Implant. There are several months between each step to allow for gum healing and the Implant to set before the crown can be made. Implant crowns are not the same as regular crowns because the have a hole in the center for a screw that secures the tooth to the implant. The crown tooth alone cost $2K and my insurance paid half of that.
Just be aware of what your total out of pocket costs will be with your insurance because I was blind sided regarding how much the crown tooth costs until I reached the point in the process. All things considered I'm not sure I will do another Implant in my situation.

Since the OP didn't indicate any insurance, OP might should consider the whole endeavor as out of pocket??
I will be out of pocket, ~$6000/tooth when all is said and done.
But, the only price shopping was cash price discount vs. insurance price.

I've had two implants done by Dr. Reebeye at Triangle Implant Center in the Greenwood Shopping Center in Durham. They were not cheap. I had them use sedation and the most recent one was about $4500 not including the crown, which was done by my dentist. But I haven't had a minute's trouble and my recovery from the actual implant was easy.
I know that there are cheapo implant places, but with something like this I feel you get what you pay for. Just my $0.02.
